CAA approves in-flight Wi-Fi for SA

WiFi Soon in South African skies South African jetsetters no longer have to forgo Internet connectivity, e-mail communication, SMS-services and even IPTV at 35000 feet.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has approved an application by WirelessG and Row 44’s to install its in-flight Wi-Fi enabling equipment onboard South African commercial aircraft. The approval will enable WirelessG to operate its G-Connect broadband services aboard commercial aircraft in South African skies.

Southern Sudanese woman hired to fly for Ethiopian Airlines

A Southern Sudanese lady has been employed as a pilot by Ethiopian Airlines, now flying as a First Officer, aka co-pilot on B737 aircraft. It is thought that Ms. Aluel Bol Aluenge is the first Southern Sudanese woman to accomplish qualifying as a commercial pilot holding an ATPL and then being employed by one of Africa’s leading airlines.

Arik Air’s new A330 enters into service on Lagos-Johannesburg route

Arik at Johannesburg Arik Air, Nigeria’s leading commercial airline has introduced its new Airbus A330-200 aircraft onto its daily Lagos-Johannesburg route commencing on 23rd July, replacing the Boeing B737-800 aircraft hitherto flying between the two cities.

The A330-200 is a two-engine aircraft and an environmentally-friendly product for the mid-range Lagos-Johannesburg route. It is a two class configuration providing 24 Premium Business Class seats, with an impressive 62 inch seat pitch and seat width of 21 inches, and 259 Economy Class seats with extra wide seat width of 19 inches, each with individual seat back 9 inch screens offering the very best in-flight facilities, providing guests with maximum comfort and style.

Kenya Airways goes daily with B777 to Hong Kong and Lagos

The Kenyan flag carrier, Kenya Airways (KQ), has just announced that they will go daily by the end of September from Nairobi to Hong Kong and Guangzhou, using a B777 aircraft, a substantial boost for passenger and cargo capacity and a sign that demand from across the airline’s African network is sharply up, justifying the daily flights on the largest aircraft KQ has on the fleet.

First to land on African continent

Ethiopian Boeing 777 Ethiopian Airlines (ET) is expected to take delivery either late next month or in early November of the first of several B777-200LR, Boeing’s current state-of-the-art long distance wide-body aircraft. This enhanced version, first flown commercially in 2006, will allow ET to fly from their Addis Ababa base nonstop to literally any destination across the globe without having to stop for fuel, making it an ideal aircraft for the airline’s flights to the United States and also to the Far East.

RwandAir Selects TIMCO’s Brice Seating for its New B737-800 Aircraft

RwandAir today announced leading aircraft seat manufacturer Brice Seating, a part of the TIMCO Aerosystems family of interior products, its selected seat supplier. The B1010 economy seat and its B2054 business class seat have been selected for installation on the new B737-800 aircraft deliveries. Each of the seat products will include a robust, built-in entertainment system, providing passengers with the latest state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment.

LAM Mozambique Airlines and South African Airways started to perform from 3rd August of 2010, shared flights on the route Maputo - Johannesburg - Maputo, with the implementation of the code-share agreement.
